Bologna (Italy), Tuesday 17 September 2013: After a difficult weekend in Turkey during which Carlos Checa suffered a serious accident, the latest tests made by doctors in Spain have now revealed that the official rider for Team SBK Ducati Alstare also has a fractured pelvis. A terrible blow for the Team SBK Ducati Alstare rider who faces surgery and a minimum ten-week recuperation period.

At the recent World Superbike round that took place last weekend at Istanbul Park in Turkey, Checa was the victim of a bad crash during Friday’s first free practice session. The Clinica Mobile medical team, on hand to treat the rider at the track, reported a contusion to the thorax and a suspected fracture of the left scaphoid. As a result the Spanish rider was unable to continue with the weekend’s qualifying sessions or races and returned to Spain on Sunday morning in order to immediately undergo further testing, first in the hands of Doctor Turmo of the CAR clinic and then under the care of Doctor Mir.

Unfortunately today’s diagnosis has further complicated the medical situation. Carlos was having difficulty walking and so Doctor Mir, who is attending to Carlos at this difficult time, therefore carried out further tests that have revealed a fracture of the pelvis, at the point where it joins with the femoral head. Surgery is scheduled for Wednesday 18th September and will be performed by Doctor Ribas of the Dexeus clinic. The long period of recuperation required post-surgery unfortunately means that Checa will be unable to participate in the final three round of the 2013 season.

Borgo Panigale (Bologna – Italy), 17 settembre 2013: Dopo un weekend difficile in Turchia in cui Carlos Checa è rimasto vittima di una grave caduta, il pilota ufficiale del Team SBK Ducati Alstare, dopo gli ultimi esami a cui è stato sottoposto dai medici in Spagna, ha saputo di aver subito anche una frattura del bacino. Un brutto colpo per il portacolori del Team SBK Ducati Alstare, che dovrà affrontare un intervento chirurgico ed un periodo di recupero di almeno dieci settimane.

In occasione del dodicesimo round del Mondiale Superbike, disputatosi lo scorso weekend sul circuito di Istanbul Park in Turchia, Checa è rimasto vittima di una brutta caduta occorsagli durante le prove libere del venerdì. I medici della Clinica Mobile, che subito hanno assistito il pilota, hanno rilevato una contusione al torace alto e una sospetta frattura dello scafoide della mano sinistra. A causa dell’infortunio Checa non ha potuto prendere parte alle prove e alla gara, rientrando domenica mattina in Spagna per sottoporsi immediatamente a visite più approfondite, prima col Dott. Turmo del centro CAR e poi dal Dott. Mir.

Purtroppo la diagnosi di oggi ha, ulteriormente, complicato il quadro clinico. Lamentando fatica e dolori a camminare, il Dott. Mir, che lo segue in questa delicata fase, ha sottoposto Carlos ad ulteriori accertamenti medici che oltre ad una frattura al Radio della mano sinistra, purtroppo, hanno rilevato una frattura del bacino all’altezza dell'attacco della testa del femore. L’intervento è programmato per mercoledì 18 settembre; sara’ il Dott. Ribas della clinica Dexeus, un collega del Dott. Mir, ad operare domani. A questo seguirà un inevitabile e lungo periodo di recupero che non prevede purtroppo il suo rientro in pista entro la fine della stagione.
