Portimão (Portugal), Tuesday 4th June 2013: Team SBK Ducati Alstare and riders Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini prepare to travel towards the ‘Autódromo Internacional do Algarve’ in Portimão, Portugal for the sixth round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship taking place this coming weekend.

 

Just over a week since round 5 at Donington Park in the UK, both Checa and Badovini are enthusiastic about returning to the Portuguese track in what will hopefully be sunny conditions. Carlos is continuing with intensive physiotherapy in order to be as prepared as possible for the next races. His left shoulder is responding well to treatment and the Spaniard is working extremely hard to get back in shape.

 

The 2011 World Champion has reached the Portimão rostrum on more than one occasion in recent years, both as a race winner and as a runner-up, and always enjoys racing at this particular circuit. Ayrton, having finished race one at Donington in eleventh position while unfortunately suffering a fall in the second, is focusing on scoring two solid results come Sunday. The Italian’s best result to date at the Portuguese track was a sixth place finish in 2011.

 

Carlos Checa:

“My aim is to regain strength and prepare as well as possible for this weekend’s races. At Donington I was probably around a 6 out of 10 but now I feel like an 8. I’m going to the gym and continuing with physiotherapy every day here in Spain and am in contact with the Clinica Mobile who will help me with treatments throughout the race weekend. We’ll have to see how I am once I complete race distance but the Portimão track should be less of a problem than Donington, one of the most physical layouts. To be honest I thought I could have done race 2 at Donington but I thank Francis and Ernesto for having made me see that it was best to sit it out – it was the right decision because my shoulder’s had time to regain strength and stability. I’d like recovery to be quicker but I understand that, now I’m 40, maybe it takes a little longer. I hope I can soon put this behind me and concentrate instead on my technical growth with the bike.”

Ayrton Badovini:

“Portimão’s a track that I really like although I’ve never been particularly fast there during races, only during winter testing. I’m feeling confident anyway. We should be able to make the most of some decent weather there in June and technically-speaking the track shouldn’t be so difficult for us and the Panigale, actually it might even help us out. I’m feeling very motivated and look forward to the weekend, perhaps it might even mark a turning point for us.”

Il Team SBK Ducati Alstare si prepara per il Portogallo e per il Round 6 del Mondiale Superbike 2013

 

Portimão (Portogallo), martedì 4 giugno 2013: il Team SBK Ducati Alstare ed i suoi piloti Carlos Checa ed Ayrton Badovini si preparano a viaggiare verso l’Autódromo Internacional do Algarve a Portimão, in Portogallo per il sesto round del campionato Mondiale Superbike 2013 che si svolgerà in questo weekend.

 

A poco più di una settimana dalla conclusione del quinto round di Donington Park. UK, sia Checa che Badovini sono entusiasti di tornare sulla pista portoghese, dove si spera di poter godere di buone condizioni meterologiche. Carlos sta continuando gli intensi trattamenti fisioterapici per prepararsi al meglio alle prossime gare. La spalla sinistra sta reagendo bene alle cure e il pilota spagnolo si sta impegnando molto per recuperare la forma fisica. 

 

Il campione del mondo 2011 è salito sul podio portoghese più di una volta in passato, sia come vincitore di gara che come secondo classificato; è una pista sulla quale gli e’ sempre piaciuto combattere. Ayrton, che ha chiuso la prima manche a Donington in undicesima posizione mentre è stato vittima di una caduta nella seconda, si sta concentrando per ottenere due buoni risultati questa domenica. A Portimao il suo miglior piazzamento in Superbike è stato un sesto posto ottenuto nel 2012.

 

Carlos Checa:

"Il mio obiettivo è stato quello di recuperare le forze e prepararmi al meglio per le due gare di questo weekend. A Donington forse mi davo 6 su 10 mentre adesso mi sento da 8. Vado in palestra e continuo con la fisioterapia tutti i giorni e sono in contatto con la Clinica Mobile, cosi’ continueremo con i trattamenti anche durante il weekend di gara. Sara’ da vedere come mi sento dopo la distanza di gara, ma la pista di Portimão dovrebbe essere meno critica per la spalla rispetto a quella di Donington, che e’ molto fisico come tracciato. Onestamente pensavo di essere in grado di fare la seconda gara a Donington ma ringrazio Francis ed Ernesto per avermi fatto capire che quella di non correre era la decisione giusta,  perche’ così la spalla ha avuto il tempo di recuperare la sua forza e la sua stabilita; vorrei che fosse un recupero un po’ piu’ veloce, ma capisco che a 40 anni ci vuole probabilmente piu’ tempo. Spero di poter dimenticare presto questa storia e concentrarmi invece sulla mia crescita tecnica con la moto.”

“Portimão e’ un circuito che mi piace molto, non sono mai andato molto veloce in gara, ma nei test invernali si’. Mi sento comunque molto fiducioso. Ci dovrebbe essere bel tempo li’ a giugno, e tecnicamente non dovrebbe essere una pista cosi’ difficile per noi e per la Panigale, anzi’ forse ci potrebbe dare anche una mano. Diciamo che vado in Portogallo molto motivato e spero che questo weekend possa essere un punto di svolta della stagione.”
