Donington (UK), Friday 17 May 2013: Team SBK Ducati Alstare’s riders Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini plan to be fighting fit and ready for Round 5 of the World Superbike Championship next weekend at Donington Park; they will be joined in the Ducati Alstare garage by wildcard entry Niccolò Canepa.

Team SBK Ducati Alstare in collaboration with Team Barni Racing have come to an agreement that will see Italian rider Niccolò Canepa participate as a wildcard in the Superbike category this weekend. Canepa, who is currently leading the Superstock 1000 championship with Team Barni Racing, is available to compete in the Superbike category this weekend as the Stock bikes do not race at the UK circuit. The Ducati Alstare and Barni Racing teams are therefore pleased to announce that Canepa will join official Ducati Superbike riders Checa and Badovini for this fifth round of the world series.

Last year’s event at Donington Park saw both Carlos and Ayrton close with a best result of sixth position though Checa was a race winner at the UK track in 2011. Canepa also competed at Donington last year, finishing with a best of eleventh position.

Checa, who was unable to take part in Monza’s races due to an osseous edema to the humerus of the left shoulder, will return to the track next weekend at Donington. Having completed a course of intense treatment over recent weeks he is confident that he will be ready to fight come Sunday.

Team SBK Ducati Alstare and Badovini took part in a positive day’s testing at the Mugello circuit last Tuesday. Ducati’s development team and Niccolò Canepa, also present, carried out some tests which continued into Wednesday, giving Niccolò the chance to build confidence with the 1199 Panigale in its Superbike configuration in preparation for the UK event. During these sessions both riders tested new traction control settings and various set-ups that gave encouraging results.

Carlos Checa: “Having been forced to sit out of the Monza races I’m really looking forward to being back on the bike at Donington. I’ve been working hard to get back to full fitness and have carried on with the treatments recommended to me by the specialists – I still have a week to prepare before getting back on track next Friday but I’m feeling much stronger and am optimistic ahead of the next races.”

Ayrton Badovini: “The day’s testing that we completed at Mugello was very useful and I hope we’ll be able to confirm the work done there on track at Donington. I can finally say that I feel fit once more, after physical problems through the first part of the season. I am continuing with my usual training and preparation programme at home and aim to take two good results in the UK next week – I’m feeling confident.”

Checa, Badovini e wildcard Canepa si preparano per il quinto round del Mondiale Superbike a Donington

Donington (UK), venerdì 17 maggio 2013: i due piloti del Team SBK Ducati Alstare, Carlos Checa ed Ayrton Badovini, si preparano per il quinto round del campionato Mondiale Superbike che si svolgera’ il prossimo weekend a Donington Park in Inghilterra; per questo evento si unira’ a loro Niccolò Canepa che parteciperà come wildcard.

Il Team SBK Ducati Alstare in collaborazione con il Team Barni Racing si sono accordati per far partecipare il pilota italiano Niccolò Canepa al week end di Donington come wildcard, nella categoria Superbike. Canepa, attualmente in testa alla classifica della Superstock 1000 FIM Cup con il team Barni Racing, può gareggiare in Superbike a Donington, considerando che le Stock non corrono sul tracciato inglese. Il Team Ducati Alstare ed il Team Barni Racing sono quindi lieti di annunciare che Canepa si unirà ai due piloti ufficiali Checa e Badovini in questo quinto round del Mondiale.

Un anno fa sia Carlos che Ayrton hanno concluso con un miglior risultato di sesto sul tracciato inglese, mentre Checa ha vinto sulla stessa pista nel 2011. Anche Canepa lo scorso anno ha gareggiato a Donington ottenendo come miglior risultato un undicesimo posto.

Checa, che non ha potuto partecipare al round di Monza a causa di un edema osseo riscontrato alla testa dell’omero della spalla sinistra, tornerà in pista a Donington, dopo aver completato una serie di trattamenti in Spagna nelle ultime settimane. Carlos confida di essere pronto a battagliare nelle gare di domenica.

Lo scorso martedì il Team Ducati Alstare e Badovini erano in pista al Mugello per un giorno di prove insieme al team di sviluppo Superbike Ducati che si è avvalso proprio di Niccolò Canepa per svolgere alcuni test che sono continuati anche mercoledì e hanno dato modo a Niccolò di prendere confidenza con la 1199 Panigale in versione Superbike in vista dell’appuntamento inglese. Durante queste sessioni si sono testate nuove tarature del traction control e vari setup che hanno dato risultati incoraggianti ad entrambi i piloti.

Carlos Checa: “Dopo qualche settimana di stop forzato non vedo l’ora di tornare in sella a Donington. In questi giorni sto lavorando duramente per rimettermi in forma, continuando con tutti i trattamenti che gli specialisti mi hanno suggerito. Ho ancora una settimana di tempo per fare gli ultimi trattamenti, ma mi sento già più forte; sono ottimista per quanto riguarda le prossime gare.”
