Max recovering well after Assen

The Assen round of the Superbike World Championship was always going to be a tough one for Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner, especially coming so soon after breaking his left collarbone in a crash at Valencia less then three weeks previously.

But a superb podium in the first race and a hard-fought for fifth in the second was testament to the young German’s ability and determination to do well. Although, his injury didn’t cause too many problems during the race weekend, after it was all over the realisation of it all set in.

“I was very happy with the race weekend, “ said Max. “A podium in the first race was great and fifth in the second was not so bad. The races encouraged me to think that there are more podiums to come - and maybe my first win also. When I was on the bike my collarbone was not a problem and although I had no big pain on Sunday night, I did feel tired and my body was destroyed! Neither the bike nor I were 100%, but I think we we did a good job. On Monday and Tuesday after Assen, I just relaxed and did no training whatsoever. On Wednesday, my personal trainer suggested that I did some gym work to build strength in my legs, so that’s what I did. Thursday was a day off training, because my trainer believes in one day on, followed by one day off. So Friday is back training in the gym and then running in the woods nearby.
On Sunday there is a biker meeting in Dresden and I’ll be there signing autographs and posters - but not doing any riding! I always like these kind of events because it’s good fun meeting all the bike fans and hopefully the weather will be fine and everybody will have a good time. After that it will soon be time to head off to the next race in Monza. With each day, I feel fitter and stronger and now I’m already really looking forward to Monza and getting on to the podium again.”
