Special investigation at Portimao

The Suzuki Alstare engine development chief, Bruno Bailly, visited during his portuguese holiday the Portimao circuit, still under construction a few weeks before the race week-end planned on November the 2nd 2008. For the opportunity, he played to be a spy and took several pictures to show where the works are now.

A lot of rumours are currently running among the paddock community about that Portuguese round of the WSBK 2008 season.

Will all facilities be ready on time? Will this round be unfortunately cancelled? Will the 2008 WSBK season finish after the french round in Magny-Cours?

Pleasantly welcomed by the portuguese circuit commercial director and the people in charge of the building works, our special investigator enjoy a one-day visit on and around the circuit which is litteraly coming out the arid ground of Algarve area.

With a total length of 4.658 km (the 6th longest of the season), the very modern Portimao circuit will surely offer to the superbike riders a lot of funs and great sensations. Along the 969 m. of the straight line, they'll surely fight for success until the checked flag but for the moment, this brandnew track is more similar to a dirt bike track than one onto WSBK and Moto GP riders'll show their skills in a few months.

Everything'll be finished in the planned time” explained the responsible of the building works “the last work'll be made is alsphalting the track. To avoid any jumps on the concrete, we'll make all the track in only one time: it'll be a non-stop work during 72 hours.” Let's bet that the track'll be as flat as a pool game.

The visitors'll discover around the track all the facilities they dream for: leasure areas and entertainement for the public, shopping lanes for the fans and a luxury VIP building offering an unimpeded outlook on the track. Ideally situated inside the circuit, the VIP building will be at the heart of the action and allow to the VIP public to be closer to the battle between the riders.

Do you think the circuit'll be ready on time?

In Suzuki Alstare team, we believe in this portuguese round, hoping that our riders 'll conquer this brandnew track and by the way, the heart of the portuguese public.
